    Windows 8.1 upgrade?

    Subject: up grade to windows 8.1?
    I have an Asus laptop with windows 8 that is one year old. I use windows 8 very limited but use only windows 7. Should I upgrade to windows 8.1?

    There have been some Asus hardware configurations that have had problems with the upgrade. Another thing to consider is that there is also the Windows 8.1 Update that will also be a requirement. With 8.1 machines, the Update is the new baseline. Without the Update (KB2919355) installed, no further updates will be offered.

    But if you stay with Windows 8, you will continue to get security updates and patches. And aside from all that, there is no strong compelling reason to upgrade to 8.1

    There are a number of threads in the Windows 8 Forum concerning this subject. Peruse them and gather some more information before you make your decision.
    Create a new drive image before making system changes, in case you need to start over!
