outlook 365 reading pane disappears after deleting some messages

After deleting maybe half of my daily messages, my reading pain goes blank. Every thing else works fine, send and receive, write new message, and move from message to message, and delete messages. I tried leaving it set for an hour or more still no reading pane. The only way I get it back is to close outlook and restart.

    Thanks in advance!

This can happen when you have "show in groups" selected in your "Arrange by" options and one of the groups is selected instead of an email message.
