    How to Identify 8.1 Update

I am at a loss and humbly ask for enlightenment.

I work in desktop mode ONLY! I just can not get used to full screen applications limiting my computer (world) view to just one thing at a time. So if I want to see what version and/or Service Pack I am on I open the Computer Properties.

How can I see if the famous Win 8.1 Update is installed?

Other than scrolling through the update history trying to find and in the end overlooking KB2919355 or whatever it's KB number is?

Seriously, my eyes are too bad to take much reading of the small font in the Update History list - plus, what is M$ thinking to hide such an important piece of information?

Well, if they are thinking at all. Like giving users what users have been begging for since the first Win 8 pre release. But I digress, sorry.

    Any workable ideas greatly appreciated.

    TIA

If you have a magnifying glass search icon at top right of your start screen then you have Windows 8.1 Update:

Which Windows operating system am I running?

    Thank you Bruce.

I have updated my post to clarify that I NEVER work in the Metro Full Screen junky tablet/phone interface.

And M$'s more than clunky method of finding out is more of an imposition than anything else.

With the upgrade from 8 to 8.1 being a 3.xGB download I don't buy Micro$oft's nomenclature. That was an installation of a complete new OS and 8.1 Update being 890MB looks more like a classic Service Pack.

So what may be the motives behind NOT saying clearly in the Computer Properties what we actually are using?

You could alternatively paste KB2919355 into the search box at top right of Installed Updates (via Control Panel, Programs and Features or Windows Update).

    Looking for what?

It says 8.1 there whether you have the Update installed or not.

Control Panel | System does NOT tell you whether the Update is installed.

The only sure way to tell is the method Bruce listed in post #4.

This is all you need in order to identify that the update to 8.1 is installed...
    Untitled.jpg
Right click on an empty portion of the taskbar and select "properties".

The option to show Windows Store apps here is the simplest visible sign of the 8.1 update presence.

    Unknown.
It could very well be disorganization above and beyond the usual for MS.
It's also uncertain why these upgrades and updates are so (outrageously) large.
