Tags to make a URL live

Want to make a link you have posted clickable?
Below is a quick guide - the text formatting I have used is for clarity only and not required.
Either method will take you to the same destination.

Re: Tags to make a URL live

    Leif,

That's a really nice way to show this.

I had a post in the past- which was for a little while in "Words from on high", which attempted to say the same thing using standard HTML. It caused huge problems. Tags to show the "[" did not get translated properly.

Showing in a graphic is so simple, and so difficult to get wrong. I which I'd thought of it.

Re: Tags to make a URL live

Lief--Thanks. I am also having trouble with this from HELP :
The following Markup Tags are available for your use:

"You can copy and paste them from this list. Popups are also provided on some screens, where you can click the buttons to insert the Tag instantly into your post without having to type it. "

I would like to use a number of markup tags to improve the form and also to make it easier for anyone
else to read the post--for example "bold." You can copy them and paste them how/where?
I highlighted all of them using Ctrl+A and then hit "copy" on my keyboard--so I assume it was on
my clipboard--then I looked for a place to paste and couldn't make it happen. I also can't figure out
where or how popups are provided on some screens where buttons can be clicked to insert the tag
    instantly into your post.
It must be obvious to everyone else but not to me. How and where do you paste these?

Also is 1-Click TagPanel part of this. I can't use this either.

    Thanks,

    defrag

Re: Tags to make a URL live

I don't care what anyone else says, by far the easiest and fastest way way to insert Markup Tags is to manually type them in.

I don't quite follow what you mean when you say "..--then I looked for a place to paste and couldn't make it happen" - where were you trying to paste? They can only be used in these post entry windows.

Above the field I am typing into now, is the link to the 1-Click TagPanel.
If I click this, the tag panel opens, and clicking on any of the icons will insert the tags at the end of the text - it will not insert where the cursor is.

Example, I want to type some bold text. I open up the 1-Click TagPanel and click on the <IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/bold.gif> button and immediately
    [ b]text[ /b]
    is inserted.
(The word 'text' is inserted so you can see where the text you want bold should be placed within the tags.)

    I would recommend 2 things:
1] Print out the Forum Help - Markup page - you will find it far easier to understand and work from.
2] Go to the Test forum and experiment. If you use the 1-Click TagPanel, insert what you want, then click preview. You will then see what you have entered side-by-side with what effect they have.
(Don't worry about how many posts you make - Test is purged automatically on a regular basis.)

    Two final points to note:
1] If you use the 1-Click TagPanel, the example to insert an image does not resolve to a real image, try this:
    [ image]http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/bold.gif[ /image]
2] If you use multiple tags - for example bold and underline - you should use the cancel tags in reverse order:
    [ b][ u]bold and underline[ /u][ /b]

    Notes:
Where I have shown examples of tags, I have added a space after the ' [ ' to stop them from working!
If you open the 1-Click TagPanel, then open other windows, I believe the 1-Click TagPanel is only referenced back to the window from which it was opened - if it doesn't work, close it it and re-open from the current working window.

And you are STILL entering unnecessary carriage returns!

Tx Leif -- that bit about it showing up at the end of the text was getting to me. Couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Learn somethin' new everyday.

Re: Tags to make a URL live

Lief thanks--Will work on this tomorrow--will get it or bust. As for the still doing carriage returns do you literally mean to go to the end of the width of the box to the scroll bar? It seemed to give it an awkward appearance--but if this is what I should do I will. This board has valuable info--I want to post correctly.
My reference to pasting those items from Markup was that I was trying to paste them either on the bar where the flags show up so I could use them or on the bar right above the subject bar (in this case the one that says Reply to Lief (Lounge Matters)---I was trying to "bring them with me" on the clipboard so I could use them. Probably sounds lame. Appreicate the help; am going to work with your post in the test area until I am able touse Markup. I had trouble making the URL work. I hope this time I didn't use the carriage returns by reflex--went to the end of the box. It seems to make a long line when I view the post but maybe I need to tweak the width if that's possible.

    Thanks,

Re: Tags to make a URL live

Yes - just type to the end of the line as if you were typing in Word and let your browser auto-scroll within the text box. It's not really a matter of what you 'should' do, it just makes it more readable for others! If they want a narrower line width, let them adjust the width of their browser!

You can only paste within the entry field - where I am typing into now. So, to make some text bold I would have:
    text

    Your last post looks fine <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>

You should edit this to use the new <!t>[tag]<!/t> tag.

A comprehensive explanation of all the markup tags can be found in HELP
