    Opening a .txt document in Page Layout (Word 97 SR-1)

    How can I force all .txt documents to open in Page Layout view? It defaults to opening in Normal view. <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15>

    I do this myself, but with VBA code. Not sure if it can be done any other way. The VBA approach requires that you code up a global template (or Normal.dot) and "trap" the FileOpen "event" (technicallly, the FileOpen command code).

    Mine's a lot more complicated, but this should do the trick:

    Sub FileOpen()
    With Dialogs(wdDialogsFileOpen)
    .show
    end with
    ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.Type = 3
    end sub

    or just...
    Sub FileOpen
    Dialogs(wdDialogsFileOpen).show
    ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.Type = 3
    End sub
