    Headers in Word 2010

All right, I found that now. I was trying to edit the field, ut had messed up the brackets. Once I did that part correctly, everything worked.

OK, I got part of it: If I set the first header text as a bookmark, then I can use a cross reference to replicate the text.

    Now:

Once I have done that, it seems that I cannot change the bookmark text. It "removes" the bookmark state so that the new text does not replicate.

What do I need to do differently?

I have tried to set up an automated way to do essay title page formats, but gave up due to my own ineptitude.

What I would like though, is this:

I have the template set for a different header on the first page, since in APA the first page has "Running Head" and the rest do not. But is there a way that I can type the actual header text just once and it will then be placed on the following pages as well?

Seems like you're making a mess of something here, or multiple somethings, but your post has no context.
