    removing file menu bar (access 97 sr2)

    I have a DB that I have showing only the file menu bar. How can I remove it or make it invisible in my forms and reports?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    It depends on what you actually want to see. Do you have custom toolbars for your forms and reports? If by the "file menu bar" you mean the main database menu, you only want to turn that off if you have built some basic functionality into either your forms or into custom toolbars. Otherwise, you may find yourself with no way out, especially in reports in preview mode. Without either a built-in or custom toolbar, you won't have any way to print them.

    I have command buttons on a form that will print or preview the reports. I do not need any toolbars at all.

    Thanks,

    You can build a "Custom" menu bar that contains no commands and replace the default in the Startup Options ....... Or .........
    You can use the following code to hide the Menubar. You will need to trigger the code with the appropriate event.

    DoCmd.ShowToolbar "Menu Bar", acToolbarNo

    Once you've previewed the report, how do they print it without a toolbar?

    You could unhide the MenuBar when previewing a Report by adding the following in the On Activate event of the Report.

    Private Sub Report_Activate()
    DoCmd.ShowToolbar "Menu Bar", acToolbarYes
    End Sub

    You then hide the Menu again using the On Deactivate event of the Report.

    Private Sub Report_Deactivate()
    DoCmd.ShowToolbar "Menu Bar", acToolbarNo
    End Sub

    Another approach would be to build a "Custom Menu" that only has a Print Command on it. You then only need to designate this custom menu as the as the Menu in the "Menu Bar" property of the Report. It will appear when the Report opens in Print Preview.

    I have command buttons on a form and the user selects one of them for preview and the other for printing. This is in an option box. Depending what buttons they select and "push in", code will run to set the print or preview mode. They then click a button for the desired report. All reports are on a tab control form.
