Show Styles Window doesn't appear MSWord 2010 Windows 7

    Hi all,

I am having trouble with the Styles Window (or dialog box or task pane as I've also seen/heard it referred to as). Suddenly, it does not appear when clicking on the button. The shortcut keys don't activate it either. It was working earlier today. Has anyone else experienced this issue and know how to resolve it?

    Many thanks!

Are you operating with >1 screen? The Styles dialog will normally dock if you drag it towards an edge. If you have a dual screen monitor setup, the dialog can be moved onto the 2nd screen instead of docking. However, when that happens, the dialog will disappear if you move the focus away from Word (by clicking in a window on the other screen for example), so it may look like the dialog box has disappeared. It should re-appear when you return the focus to Word.

The Alt-Ctrl-Shift-S key sequence should toggle visibility of this dialog. I assume that was the shortcut key you say wasn't working.

Thanks for your reply! Not >1 screen, although was working on a large screen with my laptop docked, then undocked to work elsewhere and that's when it disappeared. Changing the focus from screen to screen didn't work, but now the laptop is docked again, the dialog has reappeared. I'm fairly recent to 2010, knew 2003 inside out, so I suppose these are the little things I'm going to have to get used to! Thanks again.
