    Sneaky ShellNew

    I am trying to add a file type to the "New" context menu in Explorer.

    So far, I have

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dbp]
    @="dbp_auto_file"
    "EditFlags"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dbp\DefaultIcon]
    @="C:\\Users\\CWBillow\\AppData\\Roaming\\Microsof t\\Internet Explorer\\Quick Launch\\~~images~~\\icons\\TrueLaunch\\DBPost.ico, 0"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dbp\Shell]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dbp\Shell\Open]
    @="Open DBPost for editing"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dbp\Shell\Open\command]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Office\\Office14\\WINWORD.EXE\" \"%1\""

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dbp\ShellNew]
    "NullFile"=""

    Why doesn't the file show in the New choices?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

    Joe, I did. The problem is that 1) it is beyond my meager brain's capacity to fully understand all of it -- some yes, all, no -- and 2) I couldn't see anything that directly addressed adding an extension to the Shell/New area.

    Ah me...

    I'd think that the dual back-slashes \\ may be an issue, never see but one used with the "path" to an executable file. It's a thing that goes way back to DOS days. This is the 'path' on my Win7 with the 64-bit version of Office 2010:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINWORD.EXE
    If using the 32-bit version of Office it will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINWORD.EXE.
