    Linking to a Visio Drawing Page (Word 2K/SR1 & Visio 2K/SR1)

    Is Word capable of linking to any page other than the first one in a Visio drawing? In the syntax for the LINK field there a spot for a "PlaceReference" which in Excel could be a Range and if it's a Word doc, a Bookmark. I tried substituting the name of the Visio page instead, e.g. Page-2. But all I get is an invalid link error. I searched all of the forums and the only thing I found was somebody in the Visio forum who claimed that using the page name as above worked but for different versions than I have. Any ideas?

    Re: Linking to a Visio Drawing Page (Word 2K/SR1 & Visio 2K/SR1)

    What happens if you try to make the link by right-dragging and dropping the drawing from page 2 of the Visio file? (Should get an option for "Link Visio object here" or something like that - I'm on Wd97 where the phrasing is slightly different)
    Afterwards try selecting the linked drawing & pressing CTRL+F9 to see what Word did for the link syntax...
    (hth, Worth a try, eh?)

    Use #Pagename at the end of the url

    ServernameSharenameFoldernamefilename.vsd#page2 seems to work fine.

    I tried what you suggested. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the "Link Visio Object" action to complete. I got a dialog box stating that there was insufficient memory to complete the operation and to save the document <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>.

    Re: Use #Pagename at the end of the url

    Couldn't get that to work either. I linked in the drawing then manually edited the LINK field text to your suggested syntax, updated the field and still got the "Error, invalid link!" message. <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>
    Here's the LINK field text: { LINK Visio.Drawing.6 "Cocuments and SettingskswanMy DocumentsDrawing1.vsd#page2" "" a p }

    Stupid misunderstanding on my part, I was talking about the syntax of a Hyperlink, not a Word link field.

    From TechNet (<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.microsoft.com/TechNet/prodtechnol/visio/maintain/featusability/spot1.asp>Ways to Include Visio 2000 Diagrams in Other Documents</A>):

    To link a multipage diagram to a document and display a specific page
    1. <LI>Open the diagram you want to link and display the page
      that you want to appear in the other document.
      <LI>Make sure nothing is selected. On the Edit menu, click
      Copy Drawing.
      <LI>Without closing Microsoft Visio, display the slide or
      click in the document where you want to link the diagram.
      <LI>On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
      <LI>Select Paste Link, select Microsoft Visio Drawing
      Object, and then click OK.
    Of course, I don't have Visio, so I don't know whether this will work.

    That worked. The link it inserted was (after a bit of manual editing 'cos Alt-F9 wouldn't display it)

    { LINK Visio.Drawing.6 serversharefolderfilename.VSD Drawing~page2 }

    Here's the exact syntax I used to finally get it to work using the suggestions and your reply:
    { LINK Visio.Drawing.6 "Cocuments and SettingskswanMy DocumentsDrawing1.vsd" Drawing~Page-2 a p } <img src=/S/joy.gif border=0 alt=joy width=23 height=23>

    By the way. How were you able to see the link when you tried what jscher2000 suggested? Did you figure it out from the Edit | Links menu item or were you actually able to see it in the document?

    I couldn't get it to display the link - I had to figure it out from the Edit-Links menu.
