Error when installing a MS hotfix

We are not able to use the shift key to override autologon on Windows 7 computers. We used this all the time with XP. I found a hotfix on the Microsoft site (kb977534-x64) which I downloaded and ran but I get the error "The update is not applicable to your computer." The computer is 64bit. I am baffled. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Have you checked the registry to see if auto logon is enabled and if you are using an USB keyboard, have you applied the pre-requisite Hotfix ?

I had read this, downloaded both the hotfixes, including the one about the USB keyboard. THe first hotfix would not run and got the error.

Then I installed that second autologon about the USB keyboard and it worked when sitting at the computer. BUT we also wanted to be able to do it using VNC. I changed a couple of Registry settings - ForceAutologon=0 and ForceUnlockLogon=1. I tried different combinations of that and this was what worked.

Thanks for taking the time to research this for me
