    gray letters

Quite often when I copy a phrase or sentence from the Internet, the copy/paste result is a gray sentence that can be made black by Word.
Is there any way to correct this?
Today when I copied a paragraph, there was a vertical line running down the left side that would not erase either.
Is this some sort of copyright protection?
This may have been covered before but I would not know how to find it.
    Thanks

When you copy text from the 'net it is generally a good idea to Paste Special as text only. This avoids getting any unwanted formatting extras added from the webpage. Use the dropdown on the Paste button (first button on the Home tab) to explore your options when pasting content into a document.

Today's problem sounds like tracked revisionsis turned on. Do you get a similar vertical line if you simply type into the document?

    Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your prompt response.
Answer to your last question, no, I do not get this "line" by typing into the document.
I'll pay attention to the mode of Pasting used.
    Thanks,
    Bill
