    How to close unused ports?

How do I close unused ports on my computer? The OS is Windows 8 and the browser is IE10.

You could try disabling UPnP in the router but this can lead to some devices not being able to connect - you'll have to check if other computers (if any) can still share or if printers are still functional.

A router should close the ports by default so either a factory reset or checking for a firmware update for the router could resolve that for you.

Windows firewall does that for you. It should allow some access from devices on your local LAN but not from elsewhere. You can tie it down further if you want.
If you are testing from the internet you are probably seeing ports on your router. These should be closed except for ping unless you have opened some for games etc.

    cheers, Paul
