I just dumped 8.1.1 last month; my second months-long attempt to make peace with that OS. More of an amicable parting this time but still, no love. I guess I'll leave it on a back shelf until Threshold if it's going to be free but otherwise Win 8 and I have separated forever.

It's those who will be looking for a HP Win 7 laptop that I feel sorry for as HP's CS seems to be on a par with the reliability of their laptops - longevity and HP laptop mobos don't seem to go together very well from posts that I've seen.

Just for your interest. When I logged in to the lounge just now I saw that there were:
    XP forum 62 viewing
    Win8 forum 97 viewing
    Win7 forum 263 viewing

I think there is some kind of message there!

That could just mean that of all the people running those systems, Win 7 users have the most problems - which is why they usually come to forums

Could mean a lot of other things too...

I tend to think it indicates the heightened level of interest of Windows users in Win7 as compared to Win8 or XP, since the majority of Windows users now have Win7 according to latest reports.

But the number of viewers of the XP forum seems a bit remarkable to me.

As I remember, back when Win98SE and WinME were replaced with XP it was only about 2-3months before the earlier OSs were pretty much buried.

Yet we now seem to be seeing XP users persevering despite MS having ended support.

    Interesting days ahead.

My prediction of Widows 8 being another "Vista" appears to be coming true.

Well no surprise MS ignored testers and early adopters and bulled ahead with their grand vision. If they had given users a simple option for traditional desktop things probably would have turned out different. Business for the most part doesn't want to mess with Windows 8.
