    virus knocking?? (5.5)

I am currently receiving several e-mails a day at both of my mailboxes from a sender named "d". These are the typical "Saw this and knew you would enjoy it" type of vague message with a large attachment. Each message has a different "tag line" to try to get me to open the attachment. Some of the tag lines are in stilted or broken English, making me think the sender may be foreign.

I have simply deleted all of these without opening them and--so far--haven't noticed any damage. But I wonder:

Is there some way of deleting myself from this mailing list. I have tried a response or to flush out the sender, but that is all blocked.
Am I in jeopardy to continue to receive these?
Is there a way I can block this sender from sending me subsequent e-mails?
And is there a way to report this sender to some governing authority that tracks or monitors these types of things. I am almost positive it is a virus. I don't think it is a porno come-on--generally the porno stuff has some sort or prurient line to get you interested. These are simply attempts to get me to open the e-mail attachmnet.

    Suggestions?

    Sounds a bit like the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.europe.datafellows.com/v-descs/sircam.shtml>Sircam</A> virus.

There is probably little you can do other than to ensure you have good anti-virus software running with up-to-date definitions. If you haven't, check the link above for signs you have been infected.

Thanks. I believe that is exactly what it is. FYI. After posting the inquiry on the bulletin board I signed off at approximately 10:00 am EST. I just signed back on at 6:00 pm EST and had 7 e-mails in my inbox. Of those FIVE were the same SIRCAM virus. All have the same attachment (which I never open) that is EXACTLY 213 KB. It comes attached to an e-mail which reads
    ----
    Hi! How are you?

I send you this file in order to have your advice

    See you later. Thanks

    ----

The sender I get it from is simply "d" but it could be anyone. The subject line is ALWAYS different. In the last batch of mail today the subjects were:

    Brenda J
    The big Winston Cup race
    Completion Rules for Article 17
    NBKC Enrollment #2-201

I have put "d" in my blocked senders list and have checked the SIRCAM website you told me about. I have also alerted others who regularly send me email of what is happening. I guess that is all I can do for now. Thanks.

If you want you can either set up a rule to simply delete this email without you seeing it, or add the sender to the blocked senders list (both under Tools, Message Rules - or called something similar, I don't have OE here at the office). If you use a rule you can have it marked as read when it's deleted so you won't even know it's there unless you go to the Deleted Items folder and look.
