Re: HELP!!!!

You think I haven't done that?
That was the first think I did.
then used find in Explorer
Now I could see the last time I used the file in DOS but don't know how I could retrieve it.

Re: File deleted in NT

I honestly don't know what you might have done, but I would expect your Recycle Bin to be its final resting place if you deleted it in Windows.
If you deleted in Windows and the deletion was specified as not going to the Bin, you are going to need something like Undelete but it will depend on how much you have used your hard disk since the deletion. The file, although possibly still there, will be marked as empty space and could be written over at any time.

If you deleted it in DOS, Undelete may work - I'm not sure.
If you deleted over a Network, again Undelete may work - again I'm not sure.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

Re: File deleted in NT

If the drive you deleted the file from is on another computer, your Recycle Bin doesn't get a look in.
It's gone.
Your only chance is a 3rd party utilty such as Undelete - but you are NOT going to be able to run that locally to work on a remote computer (be it Server or PC).
I suggest you get onto the Administrator for the computer in question ASAP.

Re: File deleted in NT

Princess, if it's on a network drive in NT, you might have a chance with Salvage Files (depending, as noted, on whether it's been overwritten). Go to the directory in question and right click on its name. Choose Salvage files and look down the list to see if it's there; if so, click on the name and choose Salvage file, at the bottom.

Good luck!

There isn't anything called salvage files there.

Re: File deleted in NT

All evidence I can find points toward it being a Novell product.

(I must admit you had me worried for a minute, thinking I'd missed out on something for years )

Re: File deleted in NT

Whats being a Novell product?
I remember using DOS to recover files back in college but I can't remember how though.
You could recover the last version saved on the system but how
Anyhow better go start the documentation from start

Re: File deleted in NT

Umm - thinking it was an NT function and nobody had suggested it had me worried too!

On checking the menu, it is one of three or four functions with the Novell red 'N' against it, so I suspect you're right.

Sorry, Princess!
