Question What is cinemanowsvc.exe and do I need it?

    Hi Loungers,

Saw this process running when I was trying to figure out why my hard drive kept running and running (got it stopped with a Restart).

Is it something I need? Or should I get rid of it? What I've managed to read about it so far has just confused me. When I'm confused, the Lounge is my next destination!!!

Operating system is Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Thanks, Jerry. Checked out your link and went to my Control Panel to see when it was installed and anything further I could learn.

I discovered 2 items (see screenshot) which suggest it's been around since I set up the HP PC.

Does this mean I should keep it on the system? I'm assuming that it is something HP or an HP program I use needs (I always hesitate to remove HP programs).

    According to
"This software controls the queuing, downloading, and viewing of movies and other videos from CinemaNow. "

If you are not using CinemaNow, it should be safe to remove both programs.

See, you aren't intimidated by things with "HP" labels!

Pretty sure I never use CinemaNow. Somehow thought it was essential for viewing any videos on my PC. This is how we less-technical types get so many unnecessary programs on our computers (and too often in our Startup folders!).

Thanks so much, Jerry, for your patient explanations. Will delete the little devil right away!

Okay, I have uninstalled Roxio Cinema Now.

There is another program called CinemaNow Media Manager. May I uninstall it safely as well?

It gave me one of those "are you sure" messages...and, of course, I wasn't - sure, that is!

    Thanks for further advice,

    Linda

That should be safe to remove as well.
    See http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...s&dlc=en&lc=en
for details on what it does. I assume you are not downloading movies from Cinemanow. It appears to be crapware loaded by HP.

Many thanks, Jerry...and for the link with more info.

Given the 2010 install date (and the linked article), you're right about it being HP-installed junk. Need to be more brutal when I see these things at new computer time!
