Windows 8.1 stopped allowing me to install

This morning I tried installing an update to a program I had. Nothing happened. This afternoon I tried updating another program. No go. I downloaded a Microsoft program to correct this problem, but I cannot install it either. I've run Malwarebytes and it doesn't show any problems. Norton doesn't show any. Does anyone have any ideas how to "fix" this problem? Keep in mind that I cannot install anything. Also, I was going to find a recover point and use it. I don't have any. They are all gone too.

What security apps have you installed and what exactly happens when you try to install a program? What error messages do you get?

Have you tried performing a clean boot? See THIS link for details. After performing a clean boot, try installing your program again.

Thanks for the information. I finally decided to use CCleaner and clean up my Registry. I made a backup, just in case things went south. That did the job for me and I was able to upgrade 2 programs and install the new copy of CCleaner.

Glad you found a solution. Thanks for letting us know.

Great that CCleaner was already installed on your PC huh?

Yes it was. I don't usually use the registry cleaner part unless absolutely necessary. This time it did the job for me. I always appreciate hearing from different ones on solutions. Thanks.
