    IE 11 wrecks Google Maps

I have been using IE 9 for quite a while on my Vista laptop. I recently installed IE 11 on my new Win8.1.1 laptop. I use Google Maps quite often to measure routes and I have found that the rendering I see on IE 11 is nothing like what I'm used to using on IE 9 on Vista. Is that just the difference between IE 9 and 11 or is there a setting somewhere that is different on the Win8 laptop? I really hate the version I see on the Win8 laptop. If the difference is not a setting can I take it back to IE 9 in order to get a usable version of Google Maps?

    Thanks,
    Bill

Bill. There is a new version of google maps that arrived a bit ago. The non classic version has an icon on the bottom left that will allow a return to old (better IMHO) version.
And you just reminded me I should check traffic on the way home

wavy, thanks for the tip. Based on your info I managed to get it switched back to the old format and I like it much better. I probably should have taken the tour of the new version to see what they had in mind but I didn't take time to do that today. Maybe later...

    Thanks,
    Bill

Keep in mind that Google apps (including Maps) are optimized for use in Chrome.

And doesn't play well if you've got Adblock plus installed in Firefox.

    cheers, Paul

I don't see such a setting in Firefox or Chrome. Bottom left, I get an Earth box.
I like the older version better as well. You could more incrementally zoom, for example. Not so much stuff covering the screen.

I have Win 7 and use whatever the last Firefox beta is out plus Adblock Edge (Branch of Adblock Plus without sponsored ads) and I have never had a problem with Google Maps. Before I wrote this I looked at Google maps on Chrome and FF and could not see any difference.

Don't have any idea why we are getting different results. Maybe someone has an idea for better results if other people are having the same results as you.

Click on the help icon (?) in the lower right of the screen. It has an option to switch to classic.
