Question Microsoft Excel 2010 "Not Responding message"

Running Win 7, using Excel program, when I save a spreadsheet I get a message at the top of the page following the spreadsheet name "Not Responding" the spreadsheet lighting dims and holds for around 10-15 seconds then reopens normally..I never noticed this was a problem before. What I am afraid of is corrupting the program, I have reinstalled the 2010 Home Office file and it still does it?
Not critical but I worry something else is happening?

    Capn-ken,

If you have anything running unnecessarily in the back ground, try disabling it to conserve resources. Have you added any code recently that might be doing some intensive looping, perhaps in the BeforeSave or BeforeClose event routines? Perhaps some disk maintenance (defrag and disk cleanup) might help speed things up.
