    Highlight text string in cell

    I have a field that contains URLs, which are not formatted as hyperlinks. They look like this:

    h_t_tp://windowssecrets.com/forums/newthread

    I want to highlight a portion of the URL, so that the emphasized text is yellow-highlighted:

    h_t_tp://windowssecrets.com/forums/newthread

    When I try to edit the text in the cell, highlighting is not available. I can change the font color, but I rather not do that. Plus, if I change the font, the cell becomes formatted as a hyperlink after I leave the cell. Thanks.

    I've found pressing Ctrl Z (Undo) immediately after editing the cell removes the hyperlink - the edit effectively produces 2 edits, the second is to format as a hyperlink.

    cheers, Paul

    Thanks, Paul. Yes, that removes the hyperlinks, so I can do that if I can't highlight, which is what I prefer to do.

    Can you draw a rectangle shape over the desired text with the default set as: fill color set to yellow, transparency 70%, and no line?

    Thanks very much, Maudibe, that works! Is there, however, a way to paint that format from the now-highlighted text in one cell to text in another cell? It would make it much easier.

    You could copy it, keep it current on the clip board, and the repeatedly paste. Another alternative would be to select a cell then Ctrl-V to paste instead of pasting via the context menu. Use your arrows to fine tune its location. If the contents of your clipboard is constantly changing, then you could use a macro assigned to a keyboard shortcut like Ctrl-z

    Code:
    Sub Highlight()
        ActiveSheet.Shapes.Range(Array("Rectangle 1")).Select
        Selection.Copy
        ActiveCell.Select
        ActiveSheet.Paste
    End Sub
    Select the cell and press Ctrl-z. Use your arrows to fine tune the position.
