    Defrag under 8.1 Pro?

Do I still need to? If I do, is there an inbuilt one or what?

Windows 8.1 has a defrag task scheduled in the Task Scheduler to run automatically.
Create a fresh drive image before making system changes, in case you need to start over!

    Hey Y'all,

    Here's a helpful article: Win8Fourms

Note: the Scheduled task on my machine uses the command: %windir%\system32\defrag.exe -c -h -o -$

I'm wondering what the -$ is for?

Don't forget to check the time of your task as you probably don't want it interrupting your heavy working hours!

    Hi,

Win8.1 defrags, by default, weekly. Pretty sure it is on Wednesday. Have to admit, I forget what hour of the day but, likely in the middle of the night.

Please note, this scenario is different if the OS is on a SSD. Those are "Optimized" not, Defragged. But, this action is, also, handled automatically by the OS, by default.

Ergo, for neither is any End User action required. Well, except to have the machine powered... can be 'asleep' but, must be powered. Obviously, no auto/scheduled functions can happen if the machine is OFF.

    Cheers,
    Drew
