    Windows Explorer not responding

I am increasingly getting hit with a "Windows Explorer is not responding" situation. This is apparently a common occurrence in Windows but if anyone knows why it happens or, better yet, how to prevent it or at least find a workaround so it is not necessary to reboot, I would certainly like to hear about it.

Have you tried a clean boot?

If the clean boot doesn't identify the cause, here are some other steps you can take http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2694911

Assuming that you have done a scan for malware, adware etc. and found none, the usual cause of Explorer freezing is a corrupt, out of date or incompatible program trying to start. You will need to apply a process of elimination to find the culprit.. To check for malware, run Malwarebytes Free.

Perhaps restoring to a time before you noticed it happening & making sure you have a good malware blocker in place?
