    Win7's no-reformat, nondestructive reinstall

In the Windows Secrets article by Fred Langa on “Win7’s no-reformat, non-destructive reinstall” he states that a standard Win7 DVD actually contains all editions of Win7.
I have to do this reinstall on my laptop which runs Win7 Professional OEM and I have the original 25-character product key, however, I cannot find my original Win7 installation DVD. On my desktop computer I am running Win7 Home Premium OEM and I have the disk for it.
How can I be sure that I can use that disk for the reinstall I am planning to do on my laptop?
I have done all the backups Fred Langa is recommending and also created the Win7 Pro Repair Boot disk before starting the reinstall.

The need for all of the above arose because I can no longer use my favorite photo management software Thumbs Plus 9 which does not seem to be able to find the ODBC driver files. The suspicion is my use of the software REGSERVO for pc optimization Tuneup System Software Pvt Ltd.
Cerious Software, the maker of Thumbs Plus suggested I do the reinstall outlined in Fred Langa’s article.
Any help in answering my question regarding the Win7 installation DVD would be appreciated.
    Regards

The downside of using a branded OEM disc for one computer is it has to be for the same brand as the other computer, sometimes even for the same model. Might work better for an unbranded OEM or System Builder version but no guarantee. OEM Product Keys won't work on Retail or Upgrade versions or vice versa.

You can download your specific version of Windows 7 from "My Digital Life" and use your product key to activate it.

I'd heard that it was the product key that activated whichever version of Windows you had but http://www.w7forums.com/threads/offi...wnloads.12325/ gives different download links for the different versions and the section on the ei.cfg Removal Utility in http://code.kliu.org/misc/winisoutils/ would suggest otherwise.

I created a universal disk using the ei.cfg tool on a Pro 64 bit because the Home Premium 64 bit version which I use was proving to be problematic in downloading.

I'm not sure if you would need either the 32 or 64 bit versions as I believe when you purchase Win 7 from MS, you get both disks.

You can use http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...usbdvd_dwnTool to create a bootable USB/DVD - but if you opt for an USB, ensure the computer can boot from an USB before the HDD.

If the Win 7 Pro laptop came with that OS preinstalled, the sticker key may not activate it but the vendor's generic key which Belarc Advisor will give, will.
