    can't use wifi after KB2993651

On Windows 8.1 installing KB2993651 without removing the KB2982791 (automatic update), my Wifi stops working. the card is on, but does not see any network.
I unstalled it manually, but still have problems... The KB2982791 dis not cause any problem on my system.
If it can help someone understand what MS is doing?

I've moved this to its own thread so it can get proper visibility.

In your first post you said you uninstalled it and still were unable to use Wifi. Is that correct?

Have you tried System Restore to a time before the first install of KB2993651?

Yes, I did a System Restore to a time before the installation of KB2993651, but my Wifi is still broken. it does not see any network!
here is the top of the list of update that are installed.

it seems that this patch has broken definitly my Wifi, I do not know what to do to get it back.
I may restore my system to a time before August 13, although my system worked perfectly after the August 13 update.
    Any suggestions?

If you did a System Restore to a time before installing KB2993651 then it has nothing to do with your Wifi issue.

Have you physically turned the Wifi off and back on?

    What does Device Manager say?

Can you also uninstall KB2982791 and if still no Internet, open a Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command sfc /scannow and let us know what it reports.

KB2993651 updates ~4 files that are GDI/Win32k -related, ie. graphics/display, they won't change anything in the networking subsystem. Similar for KB2982791 (KB2993651 was superseded by KB2982791).

Generally, rolling back (using System Restore) can leave orphaned WU files and drivers that might cause problems at some later stage, better to fully uninstall all recent Updates than use SR for WU issues.

Thanks for your comments. After tweaking a bit, the Wifi seems to be back and is working correctly. I am waiting a couple of days to put back the KB2993651, and will post a message when I do so.

After performing more testing, I cannot conclude that my Wifi problem is caused by the KB2993651 patch. I have now put the patch back in, and it is working fine. I still have, on rare occasion Wifi disconnect, but it mus be somthing else, and I don't know what it coul be.
So as far as I am concerned, we can close the thread. The patch seems to be OK.

    Thanks to you all,
    Francois

I was wondering what the tweaking bit was as well.

See if these commands will get you connected again.

Open a command prompt as an administrator by going Start - type cmd.exe then right click on cmd and select Run as administrator - accept the UAC and enter -

    netsh winsock reset catalog
    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
    exit

    Then reboot.

Try the commands I've just posted in my previous post to see what they do for you.
