Insert|Name|Define (Excel 2000 SR-1a)

    I've lost the "define" option from Insert|Name|Define.

    Any ideas on how to get it back?

    I've tried Customize|Options|Reset to no avail.

    Many Thanks

    Is it missing or just grayed out. If it is missing, try running the macro below:

Private Sub ResetMenuBar()
    Application.CommandBars("Worksheet Menu Bar").Reset
    End Sub

    You are sure that the worksheet/book is not protected?

    Wow!!! Its in a sub menu so what happened to the other items in that submenu?

    Sorry I did not look at the version number, but have you used it recently. In Excel 2000 and > you have the option to display the recently used commands first. To undo this Click to clear the Menus show recently used commands first check box in Tools|Options.

    Your short macro did the trick.

    Many thanks for your quick, helpful and correct response.

    As a side note... One of the first things that I do after installing Excel is to unselect the 'recently used commands' option and enable the full menus to be shown immediately. I personally hate having to wait for the menus to expand; the faster computers get, the more impatient I become. It also makes it even harder to help someone else troubleshoot their own Excel problems when I tell them to go to blahblahblah command and they can't see it in their menus -- and then they start thinking that I'm full of before I can explain to them how to get the full menus to display first.

    Similar to being mad at the microwave for taking 30 secs instead of 20 mins in the oven? Just joking!
