8.1, one key , two machines?

My Vista laptop is on its way to vista heaven, so this got me thinking about putting a new OS on it.
Can I put my 8.1 on my vista machine and run it but also keep it on my desktop machine as well?
In other words, can I legally clone my OS onto my laptop so both machines run 8.1?

No. The license says one computer, and you wouldn't be able to activate a second copy on different hardware.

Thanks Bruce, I'm thinking I will have to buy another copy then. I have ran Microsofts compatibility program on the Vista laptop and it came up OK with only a few small issues, there was nothing to say it wont run OK.

Before shelling out is there anything I need to be aware of? Will the bios be OK for instance or does this come with the new copy of 8.1?

Edit to add, I have checked and my laptop can run either 32 or 64 bit operating systems.

If the compatibility program gives you the OK you should be good to go. The BIOS is separate from Windows.
