Changes in the file associations I have set

If I keep getting notice(s) that "someone" is trying to change the file type association, should I assume that it is a "bad guy" on board? is there a specific "place" that such pending associations are stored? I keep saying "No" but then I keep getting asked. The changes, although unwanted, all seem harmless, but bothersome nonetheless.

    Regards,

Does this happen only when you start a specific program?
    Have you run malware scans?

Joe, no, it happens wherever. I haven't run malwarebytes as yet...AV scan first and in process.

get the free version, under the options tab be sure to check the box the reads 'lock file types' and you'll never be asked again.
Windows updates changes some DLLs and then you get asked that question.
