    No Defrag?

I'm using NT 4.0 and when I click on a disk drive properties, tools tab it says "No defragmentation tool is currently installed." Does that mean NT doesn't come up a defrag utility? Or is it because I'm not logged in as Admin? Any suggestions on how to proceed?

    Re: No Defrag?

Got it in one, I'm afraid - no native defrag.
    Suggestions?
    1] Diskeeper
    3] <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.diskeeper.com>Diskeeper</A>

If you have W98 installed as a dual boot and are NOT using NTFS or a file system invisible to it, you could use that...

(BTW- the defrag that comes with W2K is Diskeeper Lite)

    Re: No Defrag?

I was afraid of that. I assume Diskeeper needs to be run as Admin?
Is there a utility I can run that demonstrates how badly fragmented the disk is? (For use as proof to present to our help desk in asking for defrag help).

    Thanks.

Admin? Can't remember off the top of my head but I think you can get round it.
Otherwise, Admin can schedule regular defrags (remotely and local).

You can download a demo version from the Diskeeper website - not sure of the size but probably about 5MB

    Re: No Defrag?

You have to be the admin to schedule defrags and to do a boot time defrag. Any profile can run the program.
