    Reinstalling OS

Hi, It's has been maybe over two years since my Win 7 Premium 64 was fresh and I think it's time, as everything is slowing down and some strange stuff is going on. I have my original disc but it is in another state, where I won't be for a couple of months. Is it possible to do the reinstall or a clean install with out the disc. I think it may be possible to make out the MS reg number from the back of the laptop. If I can't, is there a way to get it from somewhere on/in my PC. Is it hidden somewhere? I also have a partition on the PC harddrive, but when I open it, it doesn't look like I can use anything there to do the reinstall. Looking forward to hear what you all have to say on this issue, thanks beforehand......Stan

A simple answer is No. It depends upon the computer, most Brands/OEMs have a partition, may be hidden, that contains the Factory Restore files. Getting to it is not easy in some cases as there's no standard method or application. If the purchaser of the computer fails to create the Factory Restore discs, usually prompted during setup, then accessing that restore feature would be necessary if it still exists or ordering the discs from the OEM. The application used for creating the discs varies, some have their own and I've seen others using a custom version of a CD/DVD burning program such as Nero or Roxio/Sonic Solutions.

    1. If you have a manufacture install disk at home your less likely to have a hidden partition with an install setup on it.
You'll very rarely get both on OEM systems these days, but I would check.

    2. Downloading a copy of Windows 7 and plugging your OEM key may or may not successfully activate.
I tend to think it won't, at any rate, it would be hit or miss to try.

I think you'd be better off cleaning up your OS until you can get back home.
