    A line of square boxes

I placed some asterisks in a line of text as a placeholder and Microsoft Word 10 converted them to small square boxes running the entire length of a line. I cannot get rid of them by deleting them. If I do manage to delete a line, it shows up after then next paragraph. I have several lines of these in a critical and time-sensitive document and need to remove them.

It seems to have added them in the same way that it adds a bold line across a page if you place dashes on a line and then hit the return key.

I made my formatting symbols visible and don't see any thing on this line.

Please tell me what this is and how I can get rid of the offending lines.

    Thanks.

Try unchecking "border lines" in the autocorrect section of Options.

To remove the existing ones, put the cursor above them and touch DELETE on the keyboard.
