Can't Network One PC To Another!

Just having some trouble backing up files from one PC to another on my network.
They are both cat 5 cabled to my router, which also has a printer connected.
One PC is running Vista HP 32 bit; the other Win7 64 bit.
When I browse my network with the Vista machine, the other PC name shows up, but it can't connect.
The diagnosis indicates a problem with the network path.

Any ideas on what I should do?

    Thanks,
    rstew

See the post #2 by StuartR at Troubleshooting file shares on a home network . It is old but still has valid basic troubleshooting tips.

    Thanks for that link Joe.
Wow, once again something that you think should be easy, turns out needing dozens of debugging steps!
I am sure that as I work through it I will solve the issue.
I am a long time Windows fan and user, but I wonder why so many things have to be so difficult?

That post is very thorough in its approach. A short cut that works for many people is to have the same user account with the same password on both PCs regardless of being logged in with that account.
