    Phantom macros? (Word 2013)

I have two mail merge documents for #10 envelopes that, before they load, cause a Security Warning that they contain macros. I see no macros in the documents themselves, but there are many macros in normal.dot.

Other documents that I open do not generate this security warning.

    How can I fix this?

Maybe something on this page will help:

Try opening them and copying the contents to a new .dotx file. Then save that.
Or... Open them and resave as a .dotx or .docx file. These cannot trigger a macro warning because the file structure does not permit macros.

Word 2013 does not use normal.dot but rather normal.dotm.

Are you sure they're macro security warnings? Or are they just the mailmerge SQL prompts?

Sheesh! I am a victim of a momentary cerebral flatulence. I meant Word 2003.

My apologies for initiating any wild goose chases.

My previous question applies to Word 2003 too. Word 2003 will also give a macro security warning if the document has any ActiveX controls or even an empty VBA code module.

    OK, been there!

Anyway, Paul's question about whether it is a query about attaching data rather than a macro warning applies. You get such a query if you save a primary merge document (or template) with a data source attached.

You will get an empty (essentially empty) module if you start recording a macro and then cancel it without doing anything.
