Question Word 2007 Stops Working and Can't Be Closed Normally

UPDATE: Since I posted this earlier today, I tried a third time and Word opened without any problems. Maybe all the below was just a "technical hiccup"? Am leaving post up in case a Lounger has another suggestion!

    POST
I run Word 2007, a purchased and registered copy, on a PC running Windows 7, SP1, with all current patches.

Today, for the first time, Word stopped working. I had opened it and was searching via the search box for a document when it happened...twice.

Each time an error message came up telling me it had stopped working; then, a second one appeared saying it was trying to save my work before closing. This didn't happen so, after several minutes, I first closed all other programs and then forced a restart.

Second time, I opened just Word, but the same thing happened at the same step. This time I braved the scary "unstable" message in Processes tab and ended the WINWORD32.exe process. That closed Word.

Any idea what is happening? I am not going to try again until I hear from a Lounge adviser!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Please let me know if you need more information.

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Word Options|Resources|Diagnose)?

No, I haven't and thanks for the suggestion. Will do so right now and post back.

    Appreciate the idea!

Result: in Word Diagnostic found no problems. Followed link to Microsoft's further resources page where several additional options were listed. Will keep my fingers crossed that it was just a "hiccup", but now I know where to go IF it happens again, thanks to you. Been using Word for years and hadn't realized that Diagnose was in Word Options. Duh!!
