    Hyperlinks in protected form (2000)

I have a blank form that we use in my organization to sign up employees for a particular class. We collect name, employee ID, and so on. We offer the class on about a dozen different dates to accomodate employees' work schedules (they work rotating shifts), and we have separate rosters (sign-up forms) for each class. I inserted text fields for name, ID #, SSN and so on and protected the forms. At the bottom of the form, I created a list of all the other dates when we offer the course. This way, the trainer can click on the link and quickly move to another sign-in roster.

Here's my problem: With the form protected, the hyperlinks don't work. If I want to use the hyperlinks, I have to unprotect the form. Is there any way around this problem?

Also, as I write this, it occurs to me that there may be a more elegant and less laborious way to go about this whole thing. For example, instead of creating and maintaining separate but almost identical rosters (documents) for each class date, it might be easier to have a single on-line form to collect the "enrollment" information, then get my rosters in the form of a report...? Eh? Suggestions, anyone? Should I use another application to achieve this, such as Access or Excel?

    Hi Lucas:

There may be a better way, but if you want to keep the form fields & allow clicking on hyperlinks, put continuous section breaks in the document. Then put the form fields & hyperlinks in separate sections. Protect the section that contains the form fields only (Tools/Protect Document.../Form Fields/Sections).

    Hope this helps.

You're quite welcome. And I must say that several times a day, except for the word "dang". <img src=/S/rofl.gif border=0 alt=rofl width=15 height=15>
