    Task Manager crashes

I've had an ongoing issue on a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit machine.

Trying to run Task Manager through Ctrl-Alt-Del or Start, Run, Taskmgr.exe, results in the error below:

    Task.PNG

I have tried several registry changes found online. SFC does not find anything missing or corrupt.

It's doesn't appear to be affecting the PC much, just annoying when I want to run Task Manager. I would like to avoid reloading Windows, if possible.

What happens when you try to run msconfig, put it in the Search box then click the result? I've seen infections that will prevent both apps from running.

Does the problem exist in safe mode?

    1. System Explorer installed and runs OK
    2. MSConfig runs normally
    3. Task Managers does not run in Safe Mode

I suppose I will use System Explorer to do any of my usual TM tasks until I have several hours to reload Windows and application

What happens when you right click in the system tray and run it from there ?

Are there any related errors in Event Viewer at the time of failure ?

Well, that's weird. After installing Systems Explorer, Task Manager works from Ctrl-Alt-Del, Start-Run, or from right-clicking the tray.

I've added a bit about Event Viewer in my last post.

Actually the right-click to open Task Manager works on a blank area of the Task Bar. If it shows in the Notification Area [called System Tray on earlier versions of Windows] it is already open.

Sorry, I was incorrect on "clicking on the Tray" part, I was actually on the Task Bar.

It's the same thing - just my terminology.

    What about Event Viewer ?

That's an Access Denied error code.

Does the blue Online help link give any info on it ?

Are these the registry fixes you have already tried http://www.askvg.com/how-to-fix-task...administrator/

The registry edits were along the line of: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...c-3cb2a309131c

which renames the Task Manager key.

Give the ones in my link a try to see if they are and where applicable.
