Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

I tried to post this in Words From On High as it should be of interest to all. I use IE, but almost never look at the IE Forum.

There needs to be a forum that gets everybody's attention.

This appears to be a very important security update.

I agree, I just received the info and was going to post it in the software finds but decided this was more appropriate...got here and discovered Howard already did post it.

Here is where I found it...ZD Net

Re: Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

I would suggest a Forum called "Recommended Updates". I would not call it "911".

Note, if possible, I would suggest that discussions not be allowed in that forum. If it is necessary to discuss the wisdom of using a particular update, I'd ruther see such discussions in the product specific forum.

The advantage of have a separate "REcommended Updates" forum is that, the individual posting will not get lost in the clutter of the product specific forums, sew they will be easier to find.

Just a question here. Why doesn't this "critical" update show up on Windows update?

Re: Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

Has anyone tried this yet?

I would like to know, before installing, if this one is anything like the June 2000 "Critical" Outlook Security Update which basically blocked you from downloading most file types. And then one could not back it out once the update was installed.

Has Woody test this yet?

There's another critical update out today, especially, but not exclusively, of concern to XP owners here

If you go to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/...ity/default.asp you will find both of them. Also you can sign up for the e-mail to receive future security bulletins.

While you are there read up on what is at this site. It is very useful.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

I have read the security bulletins; however, I am waiting for some for feedback about real installation experiences. I don't trust Microsoft to do a panic fix right the first time.

Re: Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

I installed it before I posted my message.
I've had no problems that I know of.

The latest patch does not appear to be needed for Win 2000. n'est-ce pas?

Re: Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

Correct. It's only needed for XP. It may be needed for Windows 98, 98SE or ME "if the Universal Plug and Play service is installed and running". Otherwise not.

Re: Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

Lemme add a comment.

Periodically, IE would re-arrange the favorites.
It seems to happening more often after the SP 2.

I have an HKFavorites directory.
In that, I have directories for, e.g., PC Stuff, Apple, etc.

Pertiodically, IE will change that directory structure, e.g. by pulling the Apple directory out of HKFavorites and moving it up 1 level in the directory hierarchy.

This has been happening just about every day recently.

Wild guess ; could it be anything to do with the option to personalise the Favorites Menu?
