Re: Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

Could it be something to do with some of your Favorites folders (or URLs) being in All Users and others being under your own Username?

Nope, there's nothing in Favorites for All Users.

I had gotten used to IE messing up the Favorites list within IE, but now it is physically changing the underlying directory tree.

What is "the option to personalise the Favorites Menu"?

I do NOT think there is one, I think they are refrring to the the option to personalise the Start Menu, and or within the MS Office products.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

This is how I interpret 'Personalize' in XP (can't remember if it applies elsewhere) :
Favorites from IE can be organized into Directories
Favorites from the Start Menu can be set to display a short menu (RClick Task Bar/Start Menu/Customize/Use Personalized Menus)
I seem to remember this shortened menu can also be made to display in IE (can't repeat it atm)

My 'wild guess' was that altering these settings may have produced the effects you mention, though since it now appears you have not done so, it is probably not relevant.

    The 'they' is MerC, Dave.

If you're up for the risks of tinkering, you might trying looking at HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVe rsionExplorerMenuOrderFavorites. There may be something up there. It is possible that what is going on is the Registry still has the original settings for where you first put the folders; which could explain the reversion. Mine still has long since deleted or renamed entries, but I am not a heavy user of Favorites.

Re: Security update (IE 5.5 and up)

That's the Organize feature in IE 5.5.
    I don't use that.

But when I create a bookmark, I do have a tree of directories, and I sometimes create new directories.

For several years, IE has had the problem of moving things around in the Favorites.

Only rarely, have I ever seen it actually move the directories in the file system. The latter has occurred more frequently since installing IE 5.5 SP 2.

I was thinking of exporting the HKFavorites.
    Deleting them.
    Re-Importing them.
