    explorer.exe; not IE - Windows 8 [or 7]; I earlier miss-typed!

In a [now closed] Windows 8 explorer.exe thread, I typed "IE" -- what I meant was "explorer.exe" - the file manager of Windows I just wanted to clear up my miss-typing. Early November, I also lost much of my explorer.exe operations, I was finally forced to do decide: either a re-install or rollback to my earlier two-week old backup; I decided on a restore: which rolled me back to a working explorer.exe [file mgr in the old days].

[12/9 - corrected my bad spelling]

A System Restore probably would have worked as well.

Jerry, you're absolutely correct, system restores and/or registry restores certainly do the job in many cases. However, because I probably rolled the error into 1 or 2 such backups, that restore failed. Because I use Norton Utilities 16, I have to have external HD backup images, 'cause NU16 deletes system restores in order to defragment HD c-drive.
