    Not Admin

I do housekeeping on my laptop often by using CCleaner, SpyBot Search & Destroy, then MalwareBytes.

When I run SpyBot S & D and it finds some suspect files it does not let me delete them. I get an error message that I am not a Administrator and can not accomplish the deletion. As far as I can determine I am an Administrator and should be able to complete the action.

    What am I missing.

Attaching a Word doc with snapshot of situation.

Have you tried right clicking on SB S&D and selecting Run as administrator ?

If right-clicking on a particular antiviri or antimalware program's icon doesn't solve the problem, OP may have to Take Ownership of the drive[s] for that particular Windows session. TO reg file available:

don't worry about the word Vista, it works for Windows 7 and 8 also.

    Off Topic.
Instead of pasting your screen shot into a Word doc, use the Windows Snipping Tool to take the screen shot, then save as PNG and use "Insert Image" to have the image displayed in your post. See this post for details.
    /Off Topic.

    cheers, Paul

And just like that, my problem is solved. Used the right click option and it worked great. Checked out the "Take ownership" link and will file for future usage.
I also used "Snipping Tool", but forgot how to insert image feature.

    Thanks to one and all.

I've never known a scanner to require elevation to remove anything before, but I've never used SB S&D, but glad that worked for you.

sudo15, yes, Spybot often returns that admin-needed message if not started via right-click.

Right-click the shortcut you use to launch Spybot then left-click "Properties". Under the "Compatibility" tab tick the "Run this program as an administrator" checkbox.

The reason I tell my students about this website is because you always learn something new and then some.

What I've learned from Fred Langa and the many many in here is: there is almost never just one way to do any particular thing right, there is almost always more than one way to do any particular thing right. In here, one learns the several ways to do any particular thing right.

Especially true with Microsoft products. Usually five or six ways of accomplishing the same task. Just find the one that works for you.
