    Display: Netscape v. IE

    Hi:
I wonder if anyone else has this display problem in this forum. I have both IE5.01 & Netscape 4.75. When I'm in a forum, at the very bottom of the screen, there is a line that says

WoprHome | Forums powered by WWWThreads v5.0.9 | WoprLoungeAdmin

However, just above that, IE differs from Netscape. In IE, there's a set of page numbers just below the threads. Just below that & to the right is a drop down box & to the right of that it says "jump". Neither the jump box nor the pages display in Netscape. I don't know if other Netscape users have the same problem.

Could someone who uses Netscape reply to this & tell me if you have page numbers & a "jump" dropdwon box at the bottom of your screen? Thanks.

Yes! I get the jump box on NS as well. In fact, display is virtually identical.

    Hi Karen:
Thanks for checking. I wonder what your settings are in Netscape under Edit/Preferences for Appearance & on the Advanced tab. 4.08 is supposed to be the same Navigator as 4.75, so far as I know. I posted a screenshot.zip on Driveway in response to Dave's message. I don't know if your looking at it would help me or not.

It's a zip file containing a Word document with the screen shots at

    Driveway Shared WordTips</A>

    Thanks again.

    Edited Addendum:
I don't understand what happened (I've been posting in Lounge also) but Netscape now shows page numbers at the bottom. However, the size of the reply box is still much different in IE & Netscape. I still don't know if it's default font size or not. I DO know that if I press Ctrl [ in Netscape, all the font gets smaller & the reply box gets smaller, so maybe that's where the setting is. That's why I'm curious as to your font setting.

    Re: Display: Netscape v. IE

I see the Jump box and page numbers in IE 5.5, Netscape 4.75, and Netscape 6.0 I installed 6.0 in a separate folder, thankfully.

(SIDE NOTE: If there are no improvements in Netscape 6.x, I will ensure my web pages are viewable with it, but I will drop it as a browser I use. I find the lack of certain features like page setup and print preview, ridiculous, whether it was re-built from the ground up or not, those are two basic functions I use on a daily basis in using the web.)

    Re: Display: Netscape v. IE

    Hi Tom & Karen:
Well, sorry for taking up so much band width. Everything now works in both Netscape & IE. I can place an Edit icon, attach a file, in both browsers. And by disabling Style Sheets in Netscape, the size is fine. Now I'm getting off the computer before I mess everything up.

    Thanks to all.

    Re: Display: Netscape v. IE

Wow, Phil! What a beast of a d/l! All I can say is my reply frame, and display are for all practical purposes identical. My NS font settings are:
    Encoded: Western
Var. Width: Times New Roman 14
    Fix Width: Courier New 12

I have 3 options regarding viewing -- have tried all 3, but they don't change the way how these items are viewed (I use my default fonts). Nonetheless, they are:
    Use My default fonts
Use document specified fonts, disable dynamic fonts
Use document specified fonts, including dynamic fonts

I don't have an Advanced button/tab on any of the Appearance dialogs.

I took 6 off because it was blowing my machine. What's the optimum width for the text area in there now? (So I can trap for it.)

Weird. I get the dropdown and the jump box but no page numbers in IE 5.0, NS 4.75, and NS 6 (BTW NS 6 is BAD)

Thanks, Phil. I've added this brilliant advice to the Welcome message sent to New Users.

    <P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1>Edited by Phil Rabichow on 01/01/05 08:24.</FONT></P>Hi WW:
It was solved for me by:
    IE/Tools/Internet Options/General/Accessibility & unchecking everything.

Netscape/Edit/Preferences/Advanced/ & uncheck Enable style sheets.

    Hope this helps.

Is there a Javascript on/off switch in IE? I've never looked because it's always run for me and I've never wanted to turn it off.

Under Tools/Options/Advanced/Microsoft VM, there's a bunch of Java checkboxes, but I don't recall what they're each for.

Yeah, but Java is a totally different animal. Isn't there anything for Javascript?
