    Flash Gordon

Often, when I enter a web site, there is a long delay before I see the target page, and the target page does not fully display until I respond to a dialog that asks whether I wish to install Flash 5.0.

    What is Flash 5.0?

    Why should I install it?

Why should I not install it?

Who needs all this damn crap on a 'puter, not I!

    THanx.

What does it offer that the built-in stuff does not provide?

Properly designed web pages need to rely only on things built into the common browsers.

Why should I clutter my system with such things?

The answer to your question is very complex and includes such philosophical matters as distributed information systems, contemporary level of data transmission and data processing speed, etc.
In brief: website owners wants them to look like a kind of hybrid of TV, movie and arcade games; and you wants your browser small and connection fast. It is very difficult to find proper ratio between
