Can't delete or clear flag in follow up search folder

When I try to clear an email with a follow up flag set, I get an error that the message cannot be found. I'm guessing that it was deleted from the original Inbox folder before clearing the flag. Is there a way to either delete the message from the follow up folder or clear the flag?
I have run Scanpst on the data file.

That's weird. Are you sure you don't use IMAP?? It's a problem that happens with IMAP quite often. Need to setup auto-purge then

Sorry for not answering sooner. Been battling the flu. When I try to mark it complete, I get a popup error from Outlook that the message specified can not be found. I'm guessing that it can't be found because it was deleted from its original folder. I'm surprised that it remained in the follow up folder, where I now can neither flag it complete or delete. No, this is not an IMAP account. Yes, I have run scanpst on the file until there are no errors found.
