Tweaki?

Has anyone used the shareware product, Tweaki, which is a windows configuration manager at

http://www.jermar.com/prod01.htm?

Does anyone know how it compares to X-setup?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Tweaki?

Phil, as noone has responded I will give you a quick answer. I have installed Tweaki and have had a very quick run through of the various options. There certainly seems to be more options for tweaking than in some of the other tweak type programs but I'm not yet sure whether there are more than with Xsetup. It has an easy to use interface and the settings are easily understood. So far thumbs up but I do need to do more with it to give a better answer. Re: Tweaki?

I would generally place Tweaki part way between the range that extends from TweakUI to X-Setup. The user-friendliness is more in the TweakUI mould. Personally, I have found it generally easier to find options with Tweaki than within X-Setup. On the other hand, some of the more agressive tweaks in X-Setup are not available in Tweaki. In short, Tweaki seems more geared for the Power User and X-Setup for the compulsive tweaker.

Hi Mike & unkamunka:

I thank both of you for your responses. I think I place myself as a compulsive tweaker...keep tweaking until you break it...then try to go back.

Don't you mean "then post a question in the Lounge"?

Hi Phil

I don't use TweakI (I am a X-setup bigot) but I did look through the technical reviews available from the site.

My impressions are:
- X-setup is free, TweakI is shareware
- X-setup is highly extensible via plugins. These plugins are developed by a large user community. TweakI is a monolithic, developer supported product.
- Navigating X-setup is more difficult than navigating TweakI or TweakUI. But, once you are familiar with X-setup, you can get to what you want very quickly.

One after thought, X-setup is also a great reference and learning tool. You can review the rules in the plugins, or record and review the generated update, to find out exactly what keys, etc, are updated to implement a specific change.

er, ah, sometimes I just try to go back to when I woke up...before I screwed up. So far, I haven't made any mistakes while I'm asleep, although some would call waking up....

Hi Ian:
Thanks for such a complete run down. I see you're as much a perfectionist as I am, with different areas of compulsiveness. Good to know.
