    Word: Notice before shutdown

    Hi all,

is there any way in Word (maybe with a macro) that I would get a self written warning in a box before i shutdown or save.
For example: I have a document that i always re-use but there is a number in the header that needs to be changed. So to remind me, i would like a notice before I save or shutdown with the message: did you change the number?

I hope my question is clear enough.

    Best regards,

    Tom

You should not be opening, changing and saving a document under a new name. You should be using a template.

I'm not sure what number needs to be changed in a header but there may be
    other methods than a reminder.

some power user may answer that

i make it a point to immediately change the file name sequence nr by adding 1
and inserting the new date time BEFORE i use the document i just opened

    nope

    totally wrong for many people

i need the document history so i have to increment the sequence number in the file name to ensure that i have ALL the variations of the file

i change the file name to ensure it is distinct and separate and new
and i change the data in the header of the document to aid in searching for a specific version of it

I might agree with totally wrong for some people. Given the number of Word users that may be many.

Word is not a document management system by any means.

There is other software that does this.

That said, see these two web pages of Graham Mayor's:

    1. Save numbered versions of any document.
    2. Save numbered versions Add-In for Word 2007-2013.
