    Excel novice needs help

I have a spreadsheet on which I track investments: symbol, # of shares, annual div per share, annual income.
I have a last row that sums up the preceding columns for totals.

My problem is that if a cell has something like; sum(D2:D11) and I then insert a row later to add in another symbol and its relevant info, I then have to go in and change D11 to D12 manually.

Is there a way to have these "sum" cells automatically adjust themselves?

Thanks for any help offered to this Excel novice,
    Dick

Adding a row should automatically adjust references - right click on the row number and select Insert.
How are you adding the new rows?

    cheers, Paul

I'm using Excel 2007; and, up on the ribbon (after highlighting the last row with the "sum" functions) I click on "insert" and then "insert sheet row."

    Paul:
Thanks. I tried what you suggested on a "detail" row and saw that the "sums" adjusted. I'm all set, thanks to you.

    Best,
    Dick
