xp pro over home,lost screen

WAs installing xp pro over xp home on my HP 5495. When finished the screen was not right and I could not get to choose an appropriate driver only like a few colors and low resolution available. Then the screen went black, wrong driver?? The machine boots, shows xp pro spalsh screen and then goes black. I can boot from the CD. Why do we always have to change things. My old VAIO laptop was stolen so this how I got in this fix.

First of all, obtain your video driver (2kxphpci.exe) from http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bs...atrix65151.html, if you don't have it already.
Boot to Safe Mode pressing F8 during bootup process (splash screen). Logon as Administrator. Be patient - logon process is much longer than the normal one.
If you have the video driver already downloaded on your hard drive (from previous installation), from Control Panel, double-click System, Hardware tab, Device Manager button. Under Display Adapter, highlight your adapter. From Action menu, choose Properties. Click Driver tab, Update Driver, then check "Install from a list or specific location". Check "Search for the best driver..." and "Include this location" (type your location). Click Next and follow the wizard.
Otherwise, run your downloaded driver (2kxphpci.exe) and follow instructions.
