    cant see wireless printer

    what did i do wrong

    brother 2280dw
used the panel to connect to our router
then used win8 laptop to try to print
but it cant see the printer

laptop uses the router for everything else just fine
but it does not see the printer

the printer is also attached to an xpprosp3 box via usb

any ideas on how to get win8 laptop to see the printer
that thinks it is conected to the same router as the laptop

In Windows Explorer, click the Network location in the left pane. This should list all network devices. Do you see the printer?

    cheers, Paul

Have you run the printer's installation CD to install the printer driver & software on your laptop?

    nope
no dvd or cd reader on the laptop
the printer is installed on the xpprosp3 box
and i used the user panel on the printer to connect it to the router
and it says it is connected

i would expect to SEE the device
even if i cant use it
    maybe i expected wrong !!

i guess i could dl the drivers and install them on the laptop and give it a try
since that could well be the problem
did not think of that being needed !
    (senior moment ??)

"The printer is connected to an XP box" changes everything. You are relying on the XP box to advertise the printer.
You should connect the printer to your wireless router only, not directly to a PC. This Brother page should guide you.

    cheers, Paul
