    Question Removing computers from domain

Have a small business client where someone installed Win Server 2008. And the ONLY thing they use it for is a file server (well… domain login authentication at each PC also).
Anyways, I want to remove the server and just use a NAS. If I make each user part of a workgroup instead of a domain, do they still use their original login credentials? Do they need a new (local) account and if so will they lose their (domain account) files on their local computer.

    Thanks!

Removing the domain controller is a big task because you need to remove all clients from the domain, create new local accounts, set up sharing / workgroup, possibly add a DHCP server, move all the data, fix file permissions.....
You can add a NAS to the existing network without changing anything else.

    cheers, Paul
