    Windows Defender

I have paid versions of MalwareBytes and Avast, will windows defender running cause problems. I'm assuming that I can just shut it down as I have on other PC's but just checking it's been 6 years since I replaced a PC.

If you are talking about a Win 8/8.1 machine, the paid for Avast will have auto disabled Windows Defender - it's the built in AV program and not like the WD you had in previous versions of Windows.

No this is my 2nd Windows 7-64 bit unit. If I get another PC it will be W-10, I'm at the age now that it's a possibility I will be out of the windows race by that time. Think I read that W7 updates will be good to 2020

I'm thinking that on last W7 PC I turned off Defender protection myself.

Norton 360 is the only paid for program I have and while I've turned WD on out of curiosity in the past, it is usually turned off.

I don't know if Norton did that or if it was its default state.

Hey buddy, go ahead and turn off WD, it's not that good and it's not needed on your machine. Avast has realtime scanning and so does the paid version of Malwarebytes. WD will just add to using up more resources and those 2 programs are the best to be using. Turn off WD and and don't look back.
